Fairmont St. Andrews - The Torrance Course
About
Perched atop the cliffs that are situated above St. Andrews Bay, Fairmont St. Andrews offers two stunning traditional links golf courses, the Torrance and the Kittocks. In a region famous for being the home of golf, both courses manage to hold their own against the area's other links courses. Playing the Torrance Course, you would never believe that it was once flat farmland. The designer, Sam Torrance, transformed the course into a challenging links layout that looks as though it has been there forever. The classic Scottish bunkers that are strategically placed throughout provide a formidable test. Be careful from the 14th green to the final hole or you might find yourself tumbling down the rocky cliffs. This dramatic final stretch of holes is especially scenic and challenging with greens that play right along the edge of the water.

Stunning
Brilliant conditions, considering the amount of rain we’ve had!
Good course with excellent layout
Most enjoyable round. The course was in good condition & the pace of play good. We were a 3 ball & we were round in 3 hours 20 minutes.
We then retired to the clubhouse for a drink & some food & this was where the problems started. A pint was £6.35!! & there was no food available. This is 2.15 On a Sunday afternoon. Whilst the staff were very apologetic it was totally unacceptable.. there again with drink at that price I hate to think what they would charge for food. This was a pity as the cost of a round was good but the clubhouse a total rip off!!
Will we return? Maybe but we will definitely keep well clear of the clubhouse!
End of season golf
Squeezing the last drops out of the golfing season a change of course and a first time visit was booked at the Torrance course, we chose a windy day, if we had waited 24 hours we would have had a perfect day for golf but that is the unpredictable nature of golf in Scotland! The course is undulating and in the wind we experienced a yardage book was useful but at the high point of the course in to the breeze I needed a 3 iron rather than an 8 to find the green! The layout of the course is great with some stunning views if the monolithic hotel is ignored. A return visit in summer will be a delight I hope to return! I will however go to great lengths to avoid the deep bunkers - every bunker we were in was deep - both fairway and green side. Almost every ball in a bunker ended up within inches of the face. Stay out of these bunkers! That aside the greens had been hollow tined and sanded but still ran true and fast quite an achievement. The Fairways are generous the rough only comes in to play for really wayward shots, the fairways even at the end of October had plenty of run and this along with entertaining undulations on approaches to the greens added to the courses defences. This is a course that reminded me that it is well worthwhile getting away from playing your usual club course without needing to go away on an outing. I will be back!
Perfect Day
At a loose end for the day, we decided to try and book a round of golf in St Andrews I checked in with NowGolf and found the Fairmont Torrance course was available at a great time and price. Checked in at the pro shop where we found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, the check in went very smoothly and we were on our way to the first tee. We weren't disappointed we found the course to be in excellent condition fabulous fairways and although the greens had been lightly tined it took nothing away as they were still very true with very little change in pace. After enjoying a good round of golf with no hold ups or pressure from behind as the game went at a great pace we went into the club house for a drink and lunch, again not dissapoInted as the menu was perfect for a lunch time. The bar and waitresses were very helpful and friendly......all in all a perfect day.
Fairmont - Torrance course
A real hidden gem in St Andrews and a great price if you book through teeofftimes
Torrance course
Great day on Torrance in windy conditions course was first class tough in wind but fair, greens were slick rough was penal in placesl but fairways generous if you were in rough then deserved the penalty.Great days golf and decent price in afternoon using tee times.
Torrance Course
Played the Torrance Course on a very blustery July day. Course in wonderful condition and a real test of links golf in the wind. Views stunning and a great round of golf. Staff very helpful.
Good value golf experience in st andrews
Great course welcoming staff. Always in great condition. Good golf challenge. Good value for money in st. Andrews.
Brilliant facility
play here I must admit mostly over winter because of full greens and fairways. Always in fantastic condition. Put some courses to shame in peak season.
Lighting fast greens in January..
Loved every moment on this firm links! The greens were awesome lighting fast! Course is in great condition for this time of year! We’ll be back for sure! Different class
Course condition great
Played here many times but condition course was in marvellous condition for November. Greens were terrific. Makes a pleasant change from rain soaked and flooded west of Scotland courses!
Beautiful scenic golf cours
Great golf course while visiting St. Andrews. Used the golfboards which were a lot of fun. Some amazing holes which rival Pebble Beach in their beauty.
Great Value
Course always has a bit of wind because it sits up on the hill very exposed. Today wasn't too bad although it seem like all the long par fours were into the wind. Not a lot of players on the course, so we moved around very easily. No one pushing and no holdups. Was told the Torrance had fewer blind shots than the Kittocks but maybe not quite as spectacular views.but still pretty good on a nice picturesque day. Excellent value for the money. Would recommend as a break if some of the other courses aren't available.
A Good Round of Golf
This is one of my favourite courses. Although there are some long holes, the par threes are all relatively short.
Plenty of variety and accuracy off the tee is necessary.
Great course
Great course in great conditions and fantastic valve for money .will definitely be back
Great value for money
This was our first round of this trip. We didn't wait more than a few seconds to hit any shot. Good speed. Course with very little in way of blind shots which is good. Overall we booked it as price was right and we thought it would be a good Scottish links icebreaker. we were right we to both
Great value for money
We played after 2 days of heavy rain, the course was very wet underfoot but was to be expected, greens were fine however, bone dry almost, great value for money and NO MATS :-)
Superb day
Had a excellent day on the course. Course in great condition for the time of year, staff couldn't of been more helpful 5⭐️
