Troon Links - Darley
About
The first Troon Municipal Darley Golf Course dates from about 1910, though the current one, with its original bogey par of 71 opened June 9, 1951.
Troon Links - Darley plays shorter than Lochgreen, meaning a tight round of golf with heather and gorse clogging the edges of several fairways, and an easy enough start makes the tests between the fifth and 15th holes all the more frustrating.
Shoot straight on Troon Links - Darley, as, in addition to the heather and gorse, there's plenty of whin.

Dangerous Darley!
This course does 2 things....
1 - makes you feel foolish as its very difficult
2 - makes you feel like a tour pro with 1 good shot.
Its a course you will rarely to never find in bad condition. Greens are superb.
Staff are great and welcoming. Members always help rather than criticise. Id pay to play here anytime
Good day
Really enjoyed this round, first time I have played this but would play again. The set up and hospitality were first class and despite some adverse weather late in the round, really enjoyed this experience
TEST YOUR SKILL
Great course in every way.
Challenging to say the least. 4th hardest course in Scotland to play to handicap.
Every hole is different and a great links layout.
Superb condition considering the time of year.
A credit to the green keepers.
This is a true test of links golf with tight, Gorse lined, undulating fairways,
At a fraction of the price you would pay at the so called big named clubs on the Ayrshire course.
10/10 value for money and quality.
Troon microclimate
Played the Darley on 2nd of Jan in good weather conditions . It was raining all the way down from Glasgow but by the time we got to Troon the rain had halted ,although it was a bit breezy. A quick coffee and roll and sausage served by the helpful friendly staff in the cantina and then on to the course. The course had full greens on and was in really good condition for the time of year . A bit of run on the fairways and the greens ran pretty fast . All in all a worthwhile experience especially as most of the Glasgow courses will be waterlogged or closed or on winter greens and fairway mats . Cost £20 . Next year I will take out the winter membership deal I think !
Great winter day out
Course is in excellent condition for time of year. Revamped facilities are lovely and food was very good.
The Darley
Played here because my course in Glasgow was iced over and unplayable . Drove down from Glasgow 35/40 mins and couldn’t believe how mild it was and the great condition of all the courses at Troon . The Darley was on full greens , Lochgreen had 2 temporary greens . £21.00 quid each for a great course no fairway mats and full greens ! Superb . The staff at reception and in the busy cafeteria were all pleasant and helpful and it beats Xmas shopping hands down ;)
Excellent course, excellent condition
Although I live locally, this is the first time I've played this course. For this time of year the course was in immaculate condition. It was a tough course to play, but enjoyable none the less. Will definitely be back soon.
Great condition for the time of year.
Excellent value for money Course that was in very good condition (particularly the greens) given the time of year that we played.
Will def play again.

Troon experience
Played the darly course. Brilliant condition. But very very busy. 4hrs 40 mins. Finished in the moon light
Still learning
A very challenging course for the golfer who is can still hit a round in the high 90s.
I played this course with two freinds who I think enjoyed it more than me(I still enjoyed it)because they have better control over their driving to keep them out of trouble.
Definitely a course to revisit and put developing skills to the test.
Condition of the course was exemplary to other municipal courses.
Darley Golf Course 12/09/2017
Enjoyed my match with my friend. Conditions very wet and quite windy. However I knew the course would be challenging for me whatever the weather...and it was!. Very much enjoyed playing Darley as never played there before.
Will try it again sometime and try and pick better weather. Some lovely holes and good scenery.
Experience
Didn't quite understand the starter, and his directions, but Scott-a worker, took me out and told me the layout. 1st hole then over or under the bridge to 2nd hole. Really fun course that might not appeal to some. Forced carries but fair. Hitting over hills to off camber fairways. Highly recommended by local players.
Great Opportunity wasted
So I was looking forward to playing Darley after reading some good reviews. The starter was very welcoming and friendly, took time to show us the first few holes.
The course must have been good in its day but I'm sorry to say that it has let itself go. The fairways did not appear to have been cut, daisies everywhere, the tee boxes were in poor condition, no rakes in the bunkers was inexcusable, sandpits!!
The greens were in good condition if lacking some water. I don't expect Augusta for £30 a round but I have played better courses for less. Maybe playing on the Troon brand too much and forgetting about quality. Sorry won't be back
Troon Darley
Played Troon Darley on Sunday 8th January 2017. Course in decent shape considering time of year. 18 full greens and tees. Course very busy hence 18 holes taking over 4hrs for a 4 ball. A quite difficult course with a lot of gorse bushes, not a forgiving course for high handicappers, probably the reason for the round being relatively long.
All in all good value as booked through Golf Now on a Hot Deal. Would play again.
