Forget the golf, visit Kinghorn Golf Club for the views. Okay, maybe you don't want to forget the golf altogether, but you'll certainly want to pack a camera along with your golf clubs. Located in Fife, this 18-hole links golf course plays with a backdrop of the Firth of Forth. From the course you can see the Forth Bridge, Edinburgh and its landmarks, and Bass Rock.

The course at Kinghorn Golf Club is 5,166 yards and a par 65. You get tested right away on No. 2, a 219-yard par 3 that's trickier than it looks, what with an uphill shot that's normally straight into the wind. No. 3, another par 3, offers not a metaphoric wall but a literal one. Your tee shot has to clear it and stop on the green.

There are no par 5s at Kinghorn, but maybe there should be. The par 4s waver from the short - a 262-yard sixth that relies on you hitting your drive to the right place and your second shot accurately - and the ridiculously long, like the 462-yard eighth. Here you have to hit it long, but avoid the out of bounds on the left and hold on the sloping fairway.

Eight and No. 13 are generally considered the hardest at Kinghorn Golf Club. Thirteen - nicknamed "Lang Whang" - is a 439-yard par 4. The length is manageable, it's the "hitting into the wind" part that makes it tough. You finish on 18, the menacingly named "Cryin' Hill," a challenging 196-yard par 3.

Kinghorn Golf Club was founded in 1887, making it one of the oldest golf courses in Scotland. Starting as a nine-hole course, the final nine were finalized in 1947.

6 ball ruined it

Firstly let me say - great wee course, tricky holes, greens lightning fast and plenty lumps and bumps as a links course should have.
Staff great in clubhouse. Cant complain, lovely wee place.

Actually a brilliant tester, dont let the yaradage fool you.

**IMPORTANT BIT** - A 6-BALL WERE OUT AT 9.30 OR SO ON A SATURDAY MORNING. THEY HELD UP EVERY GROUP BEHIND THEM, SO MUCH SO THAT OUR 3 BALL TOOK JUST OVER 4 HOURS TO COMPLETE A SHORT COURSE. NO-ONE TO CHECK OR STOP THIS. DISGRACEFUL WASTE OF TIME.

Would I play again? Definitely...... but i'd phone first to ensure no 6 ball would be out in front

Quirky old fashioned links

Very much an old school links, with nature playing its role in how challenging it’ll be. At less than 6000 yards and a par 65 it’s not a long slog, and with a fair wind and a free run it’s possible to whizz round in sub 3 hours. The layout has a good mix and it’s easy to imagine how the course was set down to fit with the contours of what was available. There’s some really quite challenging holes, particularly the par 3 2nd, but there are loads of scoring opportunities. A lot will depend on conditions and the luck of the bounce (it is proper links golf!). Fairways are a bit scruffy, mostly left to nature. Loads of undulations and rabbit scrapings. Tee boxes could also do with a bit of tlc. However the greens are in excellent nick. Very true and some with quite severe slopes, but not gimmicky as you find in some ‘modern’ links (here’s looking at you Castle course in St Andrew’s!).
Club house looks quite nice and we had a warm, friendly welcome. Worth giving them a call to check for deals.
Last but not least it’s worth mentioning the views - they really are spectacular. Uninterrupted over the Forth to Inchkeith and beyond to Auld Reekie herself. Worth the round for this alone. But I’d still play it for the golf - it was great fun and felt a bit like taking a step back in time.

Challenging course with great views!

We played Kinghorn on a very windy day so it was extra challenging. Some interesting holes & undulating fairways. Finishes with 4 par 3s.
The starter was very friendly & explained the layout of the first 5 holes. Shame I was unable to follow his advice!

Great value quirky course

This was my playing Kinghorn for the 3rd time, and despite the short length it was a good challenge due to rock hard fairways and a strong wind. Snuck a few holes off the whites which make the course much more fun/challenging, holes vary from very difficult (8 and 13 into wind) 420 yard par 4 to the very easy short par 4's of circa 300 yards. Key in such dry conditions to be on the low side of the hole, otherwise impossible to hold the greens! Would be a different game altogether on spring/autumn when softer. Very worth the £18 and would highly reccomend to test your game from 100 yards in!

Shocking

Booked a T time for 12:20, drove a hour from Glasgow to find the course closed.
Why accept payment for T times and not have the course open is beyond me
