Thornton Golf Club's philosophy is that it treats all guests like members. Established in 1921, Thornton is a scenic and wooded parkland golf course known for its well-conditioned greens. The course is bounded by the River Ore and is an easy walk.
In fact, the River Ore comes into play on No. 14, a 196-yard par 3. The final five holes, as a whole, prove a particular test, making your closing round difficult. Thornton Golf Club provides a challenge for the serious golfer, and it is particularly difficult for those who tend to hook their shots.
The course is 6,210 yards long and a part 70. It has two par 5s, one on the front nine, one in the back. No. 13, a 498-yard par 5, is the longest on the golf course. Among the four par 3s is No. 9, a 120-yarder - the shortest at Thornton - that closes out the front nine.
Thornton's clubhouse was built in 1996 and provides changing rooms, showers, two lounges and a dining area with views of the golf course.
Location: One mile east of town, off A92.
