Stranraer Golf Club
About
Stranraer Golf Club, located in southwest Scotland on the shores of Loch Ryan, is set on gently undulating ground. The parkland course affords exceptional views over the loch to Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran and beyond.
Holes to look out for include three par-4s: the third, fifth and 11th holes. On the 403-yard third, a winding burn is crossed three times to reach a green set between a large bunker on the left and a steep bank sloping toward the burn on the right. The 382-yard fifth starts from an elevated tee down to a tight, sloping fairway set between a densely gorsed embankment and two inviting fairway bunkers. No. 11, at 382 yards, requires a demanding tee shot, with trees and out of bounds on the left, then a steep rise to a very fast green.
Stranraer Golf Club was designed in 1950 by the distinguished golf course architect James Braid. It was the last course he designed before he died in 1950.

Interesting layout.
You may not rely on the weather, but I feel you will be able to rely on a warm welcome and a course in beautiful condition. Greens fantastic as were the fairways. Will try to pick a better day next time. There will definitely be a next time.
A diamond of a course
I’ve played this course a few times over the years, I’m always surprised at how well the course is presented, particularly the greens which are as good as any I’ve played.
Amazing course
I was down staying at a near by caravan site and wanted to escape for a few rounds of golf, the day before I played stranraer I played another local course and it didn’t come close to this course. On arrival the car park was really busy I had to wait for a space as there was a competition on. After getting organised there is a clear sign for the starter box, the staff are really helpful and friendly, I managed to get on a bit early however as stated above there was a competition on so I was stuck in between a 3 and a 4 ball but no big deal as I was in no rush, and this helped me find my way around the course and enjoy the stunning views of cairnryan and the seas. When I played the course it was extremely tough the winds were strong, I was hitting a good drive and a 5 iron and still make making some greens due to the wind but overall really enjoyable. During my round club members would speak to me and were really friendly I was asked if I wanted to join a group and I was out myself but decided not to. Over all a stunning course with tricky conditions, the highlight is the 5th tee it is stunning, if anyone is in the area give this course a visit the value for money is unbeatable.
Gem of a course
Great course with some tricky hole and spectacular views of loch Ryan.
Club house very friendly and great food
The course is so well maintained and for the time of the year its in great condition. Members are so friendly and food is good too.
Great Views
Whilst my partner and I were delighted by the course and it's condition..the breath taking views were the outstanding feature.Wil definitely play again.
Good greens, great location.
Dry weather has made bounces difficult to predict, but the greens at Stranraer are in great shape. Lovely clubhouse. Views over Loch Ryan add to the enjoyment. Worth another visit!
Very enjoyable course
My wife and I played this course and we really enjoyed the layout and the condition of the course. It has generous fairways and nice green. Also the staff and the members we met were very friendly and welcoming.
brilliant course
Thoroughly enjoyed playing this course. Challenging but good. Lovely views. Greens are fast but in great condition. Will Def. Be back.
STRANRAER GOOD LOCATION & VIEWS
On arrival guy in pro shop was very friendly & informative, advised us where to go etc. Course was in good condition & quite challenging. Good mix of holes but a few a bit unfair for ladies. Play was very slow indeed due to some fourball visitors being in front of a Matchplay Competition & my wife & myself stopped a couple of times to allow the Matchplay guys through, which actually just created a bigger hold up, as the 4 balls did not seem to have the same etiquette. Clubhouse facilities were fine. Would recommend to others.
A bit special
My wife and I played this lovely course. The young lady at the starter's office was charming and we had time to have coffee and cake - both excellent and very reasonably priced. Course was great, although some of the long uphill holes had us gasping a bit. Finished off with an excellent late lunch. Great day out!
Top golfing experience
Fantastic golfing experience. Friendly staff, great breakfast and very sociable members. Conditions were very windy but the course played extremely well and in great nick. Faultless and will be back again to play it next year!
Beautiful views
A good course with variety. A couple of blind holes which presented a wee problem as I was on my own, but not a problem if you hit straight!
A great day out
Great course good condition, good value.
The course is a great layout & test
Really enjoy playing this course with some excellent holes from start to finish.
Views are stunning at the 5th which is a superb hole.
