Gullane Golf Club - No. 2
About
The No. 2 course at Gullane Golf Club was constructed in 1898. Now, the first and 18th holes sit east of A198. The first seven holes parallel Gullane No. 1, and then the action shoots toward the natural reserve adjacent to the Aberlady Bay, then turns back toward the Visitors' Clubhouse.
Gullane No. 2 offers great short holes, especially the 11th, with its fantastic view and strategic club selection. Make no mistake, though: the long holes are long. The sixth hole is a 498-yard par-5, and the 16th is a 527-yard par-5.
The golf course hosted the 1980 final qualifying for the Open Championship and the 2000 Seniors Open Amateur Championship.

Beautiful course and we were blessed with a beautiful day too.
Gullane-The Value Sequel
I did play all three courses at Gullane. Gullane #2 is half the price of #1 and almost the same amount of golf course from the visitor's tees. Like the 1st course, you travel to the hill, then go up the hill and revisit the hill during your round. The bunkering and conditioning is similar to #1. If you are the type of person who values history/prestige when choosing a course, then by all means play #1. If not or budget is a concern or you have time for multiple courses, then go to #2. I thought #1 was better, but didn't think that #1 was worth double #2.
Off the course, you have access to a clubhouse (not the member's clubhouse, but still a clubhouse), restaurant, driving range and putting green. The staff treats you the same, that is well, no matter the course you are playing.
If in the area for multiple days or you can add this course as part of a day ticket for a reduced price, then you can find out for yourself the differences.
FYI: "The old clubhouse" restaurant is right across the street from the children's course and is a place that local's go to. Recommended after your round or rounds.
Excellent links course
A last minute decision turned into a great one. Starter offers tees, pencils and a complimentary bucket of balls for the driving range which is a nice welcoming touch. The course is not the longest but has some great holes overlooking the coast with perfectly located bunkers making every approach a tricky one. Good sized fairways and not too punishing rough keeps play moving and enjoyable. Greens were a little slow but ran as true as can be. A good test of links golf, would be a different animal to play with the wind up. Will return again to play No1 & No 3 in time.
Fun For Both Me and My Wife
This was a fun course with a lot of elevation changes. It had just enough challenge for me (single digit handicap) without being too difficult for my wife (not a single digit handicap). I haven't played Gullane #1, which I'd like to do at some point, but I decided that my wife would get just as much, if not more, enjoyment from Gullane #2 at about half the price.
Gullane 2, 06-01-2017
Outstanding course, facilities and staff. First time I have played golf in this area and was taken aback by the quality, especially considering it's January in Scotland. All holes are offer a difference challenge many with a risk/reward opportunity. Greens quality and course are as good as I've played. As Arnie said, I'll be back.
Classic Scottish Links at a good value
Thoroughly enjoyed playing this course. Located very close to Muirfield, Gullane provides picturesque links style golf without breaking the bank. Amazing views of the water and Edinburgh in the distance, undulating fairways, typical links style bunkers and excellent greens. Very much enjoyed the round here!
