Located west of Glasgow, Earl of Mar Golf Club overlooks the River Clyde with views that stretch beyond the Kilpatrick Hills. A scenic forest filled with more than 250 chestnut and beech trees shaped the design of the course, carving the doglegs and framing the greens. It has a traditional parkland layout that offers a fair amount of challenges balanced by generous fairways that are beginner-friendly. Many holes present interesting risk-reward opportunities where good strategy and some skill will get you far, but they are not too punishing if you are slightly errant. Weaving through the trees requires accuracy and numerous strategically placed bunkers emphasize its importance even further. There are only a few holes that play right alongside the river though golfers will enjoy scenic views on almost every hole.

Shocking.

Terrible greens. No rakes in bunkers but plenty of footprints. No scorecards. No coffee/catering. No signage to first tee, just wander aimlessly until you find it! Was initially playing behind 5 men sharing clubs!
Playing from gents tees so far forward it was effectively the ladies course.
Such a pity as the general course layout is excellent.

Nice course but needs a little work

The clubhouse looked deserted and the bathrooms were in a complete mess, for such a nice facility I expected much more. Nowhere to get a sandwich and a quick bite after the 9th. Greens were really bumpy and the fairways full of unrepaired divets. Ladies tees and mens yellow were together and there was no white tees further back to play from which made the course really short. I expect they are preparing to get everything fixed up for the summer but the conditions were not up to the standard I would expect. Overall though it’s a great course with a variety of really good holes, I plan on coming back in the summer and hopefully they can improve my first impression.

Charged £2 for diet coke which had £1.09 price on it.

A few things ruined a brilliant day yesterday, first up being charged £2 despite the bottle clearly saying £1.09 on it. When I point this out, the person said they just charged what the till said.

2nd issue, we booked 12.00 tee off. As we make our way to the tee a member asks if we're 11.50. We explain no, we're 12.00. The member suggests they are 12.00 and shows me the running order and true enough my booking is 12.16. I show them my email with 12.00 on it.

Anyway we let them go and wait till 12.16. Bit of a mess really.

3rd issue there is an issue with the Scottish golf app, we played off the yellows but the course rating for the whites seems to have been applied. I can see we did pick yellows, it says on the score card.

Course was brilliant though.

Some golfnow info is wrong.

Thoroughly enjoyed our round of golf, many bunkers to negotiate and some very long holes. This site states trolleys are not permitted but in fact they are and there are trolleys for hire. The morning tee off times only allow booking for a minimum of 3 golfers, this is also incorrect, the pro shop staff who were cheerful and helpful could not understand why the 2 points above were listed on golfnow.

Excellent at Mar Hall today

Mar Hall was in excellent condition today. Very few winter tees , no winter greens and the fairways were nice and firm and in top condition for late November. Very enjoyable round on a great links like course close to Glasgow.

Booked the morning of the game. Got to the course and it was closed. Had phoned the coursed prior to booking to check if open and no answer. Needs to be some communication between golf now and the course. Absolute waste of time.

Mar Hall Golf Course

A challenging course which suits long hitters but perfectly playable for the average golfers. Holes are varied making for an interesting round of golf. Very attractive course to play with interesting views of the River Clyde. Greens true but a bit patchy in places probably due to the long dry period we have just had. Off course facilities excellent. Will return to play again.

Marr Hall

Had a great day at Marr Hall ,golf course was in great shape for this time of year the greens still had some sand on them but the ball ran fine on them. The staff were very friendly and had no problem checking in. Hope to go back for a game soon.
