Earl of Mar Golf Course
About
Located west of Glasgow, Earl of Mar Golf Club overlooks the River Clyde with views that stretch beyond the Kilpatrick Hills. A scenic forest filled with more than 250 chestnut and beech trees shaped the design of the course, carving the doglegs and framing the greens. It has a traditional parkland layout that offers a fair amount of challenges balanced by generous fairways that are beginner-friendly. Many holes present interesting risk-reward opportunities where good strategy and some skill will get you far, but they are not too punishing if you are slightly errant. Weaving through the trees requires accuracy and numerous strategically placed bunkers emphasize its importance even further. There are only a few holes that play right alongside the river though golfers will enjoy scenic views on almost every hole.

Good value on Golfnow.
Course is reasonably laid out however I found the lower half next to the Clyde very wet underfoot considering no rain for several days. The top half was in good condition however the tees need a lot of work and are very poor. A good value round though.

Golf course was in good condition for time of year buy too many four balls on course play was very slow
Great course
We knew fine well due to the weather we've had a while now the course wouldn't be perfect. We still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Course is well laid out and challenging. I look forward to trying it i again n the summer.
This course is poorly kept and run
This course has been well designed and has huge potential given it’s beautiful setting. Unfortunately it is in poor condition and is badly run.
The member of staff in the pro shop was rude and distracted and was more interested in charging Golf Now for our green fees than engaging with customers/guiding towards facilities.
Condition- The grass in the tees is dying/dead and the tees don’t get filled in or seeded. It looks like the tees don’t get watered. The fairways are largely OK but need cut more frequently. There was too much sand in many of the bunkers. They were largely raked but many of the bunkers were without rakes. The greens were bumpy, slow and had moss through them. Many were shaded by large trees with little grass coverage. The condition was a real shame as it has the potential to be a great course. There is a feel of it being under funded.
Before we started, were warned that our tee time would be delayed by a corporate group and that it may be slow. We were not prepared to be the best part of 3 hours for the front 9. Eventually we walked off after 12 holes, 3 hours and 45 mins after teeing off. There was no management of the pace of play, with the consequence being the round probably taking in the region of 5.5 hours today. Really disappointing, and even the £33 special offer price seemed expensive in the circumstances.
Poor
The boy in the pro shop was very helpful and the course has a great layout but the bunkers are very poor need raked and the weeds removed the greens need watered along with the tees
Earl of Mar
Lovely day and great round. Greens were in good condition and the pace of play was good also. Looking forward to playing again
Playing this course for under £30 is a great deal
Played on a Saturday around mid day so place was very busy
Went out on a two ball behind two 3 balls, guys in front kept a good pace and overall it was under a 4 hour round.
For this time of year the course was in good condition greens were fine and no water underfoot through the fairways
Looking forward to playing again
Full Greens on 22/12/2022
Full greens and fairways at the end of December in the west of Scotland. Superb
Winter golf
Really enjoyed the coarse . Hole by hole layout was lovely . Coarse plays long good mix . Would love to play it again mid season as scoring was tough with condition of greens understandable with time of year . Staff very friendly …
October Outing
The course was in “autumn condition “ which in Scotland means spiked greens, wet hard bunkers, dead leaves in abundance and preferred lies on the fairways.
Despite that, however, the course has a good layout, challenging championship greens, attractive scenery with views over the River Clyde and some magnificent trees.. In summer it would be a fine course to play.
Facilities are thin on the ground in terms of a clubhouse and accompanying facilities, although the hotel is there for food and drink..The professional and course starter were very helpful and accommodating and let us change our tee-off time because of bad weather.
My.friends and I will definitely return.
Good course, difficult but enjoyable
Course was in great condition after heavy rainfall the previous 2 days, greens had been spiked for drainage but not rolled so was rather bobbly.
Great layout badly kept for the fees
For £50+ Green fees this course is poor kepts. No love or attention paid to the course maintenance to the standard of a £50+ greenfee.
Greens are slow
Weeds growing in bunkers
Lots of grass growing in bunkers
We had bunkered vouchers that were supposed to be usable 7 days a week but the course refused to take them at weekends. Siting the t&c's which said the course reserved the right to reserve selected tee times for members and hotel guests at weekends....... Well they reserved every tee time and point blank refused to allow us on at a weekend. After much hassle we worn them down and what a disappointment!

Lovely course, stunning setting., sadly a very poor welcome- I felt I was almost intruding . Despite having paid £40 to play the course, the lady at the pro shop almost looked put out when I asked where the 1st tee was.
Scotland golf
Everything was accommodating and spectacular. My only wish would be that they had better rental equipment. Would have loved to be able to play somewhat similar to my normal game. Nonetheless, it was a fantastic experience!
Lovely course
Played on Saturday 06/08/22 course was in excellent condition and the young man at the golf shop was so helpfull . Will play the course again.
Top notch course
One of the best courses I’ve played recently. Tough course but was immaculately turned out. Greens in excellent condition. £40 was a bargain. No problems with taken trolly on..
Really don’t see where the negative reviews are coming from . Did get stuck behind a group of 4 who wouldn’t let s play though the whole round - very poor etiquette .
