Ballumbie Castle Golf Club
About
Ballumbie Castle Golf Club has an interesting and diverse layout where no two holes are even remotely similar. Located on the outskirts of Dundee, the course was a welcome addition since the area was mostly lacking in parkland courses. Golfers can expect to use most of the clubs in their bag, but not necessarily a driver on the first six holes where accuracy is more important than distance. Water hazards come into play on four holes. One of the most notable holes is the par-4 10th, which features a burn alongside the fairway, a sloping bank to the right, and a pond to the left. Ballumbie Castle Golf Club also offers a driving range and it is conveniently located less than two miles from Carnoustie.

A course for Big Hitters!
A very hilly Park golf course especially holes 1 & 3, a few greens were in poor condition, patchy & grass worn out. The course is geared up to big hitters, not too forgiving, it has good wide fairways, its a good hike on foot, but a good challenge.
Unusual set up
Played this course on Sunday 9th of August 2020.1st time playing this, impressed with large fairways and fast greens.some greens are looking damaged (needing watered) enjoyed getting quick service in restaurant and well set up club shop.hard to find golf course as no signposts.food was good and course well worth a visit.
Good course
This is a nice course. The 1st hole runs along side the driving range, be careful. This is the 2nd time we have played. Both times we have been held up with slow play. Today it was two clowns on a buggy. They thought they were Pro. They were not.
I would recommend this course but would politely ask the club read this and do something about this slow play. Its killing the game.
Overall though I have to say I love this course and I always play well when I play it. Smashing
Nice Course
Good experience at Ballumbie, course was well payed out and in good condition,
Happy chappy
I’ve played Ballumbie many times before, this was the first game I’ve had in almost a year anywhere. I played with my son who is a good golfer, he was praising it too. Value for money for non member is excellent compared to others nearby(Ashludie in particular) would have enjoyed a drink afterwards but time didn’t allow. Really enjoyed the game, cheers
Busy course, enjoyable round, did not like the driving range balls coming across the fence when walikg down the first fairway! Greens were slow, some nice holes.
Great course ruined by very slow play
This course was in tip top condition. We had 2 issues with this course. 1st was an elderly man in a mobility scooter who was following golfers and searching for mis hit balls. He was really annoying and we are certain he picked up one of our balls. 2nd issue was a 4 ball ahead of us who had no social awareness. They did not care they were holding us up. Did not appreciate a 5 hour round due to their inconsideration. A real pity our round was ruined by these 2 events. Were looking for a club to join. This is not the one. A real pity to cause we really liked the course. Were we unlucky, possibly but the course should be managing this poor behaviours. Still overall the course was in excellent condition.
Can’t fault the course excellent condition but some of the walks from the green to the next tee are the only small negative for me but still worth a visit
Nice enough parkland
Once an estate well outside of Dundee is now surrounded by houses. The course is simple enough with challenges from slopes and dog legs.
It depends what you want from a course. This is neither the greatest challenge you are ever likely to meet or a course you will remember for years to come. On the other hand it can offer a pleasant afternoons golf. Pro shop and club house eye both welcoming.
Like many parkland courses it cam get muddy!
When we go to Scotland we like to play different courses, the course is in good condition and well maintained. However it is very undulating with long walks between holes, ideally use a buggy.
Poor and Odd
It was cheap to play but you could pay nothing and hit a ball on your local playing fields for the same experience. The course layout is odd! A cluster of holes can be found on approximately four fields set amongst different housing estates. A lack of features makes it very uninspiring apart from one hole which looked good but unfortunately it was half closed on the day. The one positive was the pace of play, we flew round in just under 3 hours.
Very friendly course and a good challenge.
Have played this course s few times now and have always found the staff very helpful.
The course is in great order and is a good challenge for most, with some unique holes.
All in all great value for money and would recommend it to anyone.
Will be back again.
Great Course
Played this a number of times before & really enjoy it.
Negatives are the driving range being a bit of an eye sore & the tee boxes weren’t in great condition.
The course itself is challenging in a number of ways, the greens weren’t all consistent, some slow & some fast.
Fairways were fantastic & despite the rain, we had a really enjoyable round.
Nice local spot near Dundee
I popped into Ballumbie at 6:30 am on a whim on a busy Sunday and was fortunate the member who had the first time welcomed me into their twosome. As an American, I'm used to 21st century-designed courses being showy. Over here, that's not necessarily the case. This parkland course was built as an alternative to the more prestigious links clubs down by the sea. It's very affordable and good for players new to the game. The layout has its moments, both good and bad. Overall it's a very pleasant and modest layout. You can spray it a little off the tee which is nice. The folks in the restaurant couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating.
Very friendly staff although course was very dry due to lack of rain it never the less an enjoyable experience.
Visit
Very good greens, wide open fairways and thus not a lot of trouble which helped with pace of play given this was the first time we had played . Pro shop staff very friendly and helpful. Enjoyable day topped off by a balumbie bowl in the clubhouse which was excellent.
