Turnberry Resort in South Ayshire is home to the famous, century-old hotel overlooking the famous Ailsa Course, a regular host to the British Open. The Ailsa is most famous for its lighthouse by the ninth tee and the volcanic, Ailsa Craig rock that looms offshore.
The golf course was originally built at the same time as the hotel at the turn of the 20th century, but was plowed over during World War II and used as an airbase. Mackenzie Ross came in later and created a links course that has today become one of Scotland's most coveted. Turnberry is also home to the championship Kintyre Course and nine-hole Arran.
