If you're looking for mentions of this golf course in 1904 copies of Edinburgh newspapers, you'll have to look for it under a different name. Though the course officially opened in 1903, it wasn't officially called the Torphin Hill Golf Club until 1905.

More than the Torphin Hill Golf Club's name has changed in the past century-plus, and the final - or, at least, current - result is an 18-hole par-68 with a standard-scratch score of 67 and a total length of 5,285 yards. The golf club sits among the foothills of the Pentland Hills, about half a dozen miles south of the heart of downtown Edinburgh. It's a heathland course that ranges from about 700 to 830 feet above sea level. Fourteen of its 18 holes sit on a relatively flat plateau, reached via the third and fourth holes (the latter of which is newly redesigned, again proving the club's willingness to accept change), requiring skill and the ability to manage a golf course.
