The 18-hole Thornhill Golf Club has a mixture of park and heathland features and spectacular views. It's been called the "hidden jewel."

Measuring 6,085 yards, the Thornhill golf course won't give high handicappers a beating, but it won't bore scratch golfers to death either. It's an excellent walking course.

For proof of its excellence, look no further than Thornhill's record as host of numerous amateur competitions.

Location: On A76 Dumfries to Kilmarnock road. One mile from the village cross.

    Beautiful course, picturesque and rewarding.

Greens a little slow but certainly not bad. The food in the clubhouse was superb.
