The Renaissance Club is a brand new golf course to grace historic East Lothian in Scotland. Located between Muirfield and North Berwick, this course is in one golf-rich neighborhood, but delivers an entirely new experience set on high, coastal ground overlooking the Firth of Forth from many points. American architect Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design delivered a mix of inland, forested holes and more wide open holes, especially on the back nine. Very little ground was moved in the design process, which also included the sodding of fescue fairways and greens. A centuries old rock wall comes into play on the 11th hole, and during construction, Roman ruins were excavated beside the 17th green.
Stretching to a maximum distance over 7,400 yards, the course could eventually play host to an Open Championship qualifier or other prestigious professional event.
The Renaissance Club is currently private and seeking out new prospective members and allows very limited public play, as well as accommodations at their recently opened lodge.
