Set on the Braes of Cowie and providing spectacular views of the North Sea, Stonehaven Golf Club near Aberdeen has earned a reputation as a challenging short course that dazzles players with its epic scenery, including awe-inspiring views of the town of Stonehaven and the ancient fortress of Dunnottar Castle. Founded in 1888, Stonehaven Golf Club has only improved with time.

Featuring forced carries over deep gullies, and short holes set along steep cliffs - where you can often see dolphins and seals and other marine life in Stonehaven Bay - the golf course plays to just over 5,000 yards, but still provides a challenging play for golfers of all levels. Stonehaven is renowned for its immaculate and tricky greens and well-manicured fairways.

Of further interest to golfers that make Stonehaven Golf Club a part of their Scotland golf package, the Highland Fault line - which divides Scotland from east to west - runs through the golf course. In fact, on both holes No. 13 and No. 15, players will have a forced carry directly over the fault line over a gap known as "The Gully." Known for its epic beauty, Stonehaven will soon have a new course to crow about, an 18-hole championship course to be designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus and his world-class design team.

Fun shortish course some challenges

Course goes right out on cliffs just to north if Stonehaven. The holes zig zag and include 2 across a small ravine (circa 100 yds to clear). Spectacular views. People in club house friendly as were members. 1 of the few to make an effort for international visitors. Playing mid October course was in good condition. The greens are slow because of the type of grass used but were generally good. As with many links courses greens relatively small.

Best Seaside Golf Around!

Really enjoyed this course! Holes 8-11 are a great break from the side hill action on the rest of the course. We experienced all kinds of weather including high winds, rain, sunshine and finished seeing a rainbow.

Fun Links course

We were welcomed on arrival. The course was quiet as it was raining and we had the additional problem that the clouds coming over meant the flag could not always be seen especially when playing over the gorge to the other side ! Luckily we had friendly advice from other golfers. Definitely one in my book to play again, hopefully when the sun is shining so we can see the flags and enjoy the sea views.
