St. Michael's Golf Club sits atop Gallow Hill, providing spectacular views past the River Eden to the historic buildings of St. Andrews. The course sprawls across a prehistoric settlement that is protected by Historic Scotland. The terrain is an interesting mix of wooded parkland and undulating heathland with a well-draining sandy base. The golf course features small greens and narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. While it may not have the prestige or the classic links layout of St. Andrews, St. Michael's Golf Club offers just as formidable a test. The challenges begin immediately on the first hole, an uphill par 4 with a fairway that slopes right to left. St. Michael's signature hole is the par-3 15th, which many consider to be the most demanding short hole in Fife. There is a large dip to the left and rear of the green, a bunker to the front right, and out-of-bounds to the left and on the railway line behind.

Great place

Went on a blustery Saturday afternoon greeted by a long uphill par 4 against a 45 mile wind thinking oh dear- but had a great time, ok almost blown off the tee a few times but a nice course with some lovely holes and great views. And then comes the final 4 holes that are full of character, loved it and almost forgot the wind - great place need to come back on a sunny calm day to enjoy fully

Wee Tester

Played this course 4 times over the past 4 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it. Maybe not the magnificent views of the links courses in and around St Andrews but lovely testing holes especially when windy.
Would recommend St Michaels for all handicap golfers

This course has great views

Get the negatives out the way. Caught the course on the wrong day/time. Slow visitors with buggies holding the whole course up and a three ball of unfriendly members in the group behind.
That aside this is a terrific little challenge. Small greens, play for the front and a great closing stretch. 15th is the signature hole but don't over club as you'll end up on the railway line! 16th is a great challenge of a tee shot and again watch out for the trains!
Overall tyou are spoiled for choices in this area but St Michael's is well worth a visit.

Hilly course

Course was enjoyable but quite hilly. Fairways a bit patchy in places and greens ok.

Great course

Great course. Some tough holes mixed with a few short par 4’s which was enjoyable! Plenty of birdie chances! Staff very friendly as well as the members who were very keen to help out on and off the course. Excellent value for money... will definitely be back.

Nice course, good pace of play

Nice course, and the pace was good, we got round in just over 3 hours. The clubhouse was closed when we finished at 5pm, so don't leave belongings in the changing room. Although there was a course Marshall at the starter box.

Awayday golf

Played St Michaels as a change from the links courses at St Andrews. The course is good although a bit quirky on the back nine but the day was ruined by inconsiderate golfers. Started behind a lady sharing clubs with her two boys none of whom could play. When they moved on we were behind a fourball again who couldn’t play but who refused to let the field through. Ended up walking in. So please St Michaels committee if you are going to take visitor fees let’s have some control over what goes on. I for one will never be back.
