The oldest golf course in the world, the Old Course at St. Andrews cites its course designer as "Mother nature", thanks to its history dating back over 600 years. Today, it's one of the most coveted rounds in the world and offers public play all year round. Golfers can enter the daily lottery for a chance at securing a tee time, or book through one of a handful of package providers who have secured tee times. The course is most famous for its large double greens on 14 holes and 112 bunkers, each of which have a name and a story to go with it. Its famous "Road Hole" 17th and Swilcan Bridge are icons in the golfing world.
It's also the most frequent host to the British Open, as it is staged here every five years, and Tiger Woods proclaims the Old his favorite course in the world. -- Brandon Tucker

- I played it in August 2009. During that round, the sun shone for 8 holes, it poured, really pelted down for 3 and was perfect for the rest of the round. It is more difficult than it appears on the tv with rolling fairways, bunkers tucked away in every conceivable location, beautiful, huge greens... I shall cherish this day forever.Simply remarkable. The course invites and rewards a good shot and penalizes a poor one.
It is a magical experience to play a shot from the turf. Never has golf been such fun.My rating of 5 stars is for the experience of playing the "home of golf" How could anyone who loves the game ,its traditions and history not get a lump in their throat teeing off on the first hole, or trying to hit the perfect shot over the wall on the road hole, or crossing the Swillican Burn bridge. The quirkiness of its design is part of the charm because of its history. Worth every penny for me and a tick off my bucket list.My favourite course in the whole world. I love every hole and every green.
I played the couse in 2007 and hope to play it again.
As Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have said,. Its their favourite course and to win the British Open there, is a dream come true.
I give it a perfect rating, cause to me it is just that.
I also like very much the other courses in St Andrews.
But to me the Old Course is and will always be the greatest golf course in the world.
