Disappointing. Course in poor condition.
Looked forward to playing Shishkine as it comes highly rated. At £30 for 12 holes quite pricey so we booked via Golf Now for £19.
The professional made us feel very guilty for booking via Golf Now as the club does not get the money. He went on at some length about it. We are playing golf every day so Golf Now helps keep the overall cost down.
The course itself was in a fairly poor condition and probably half the holes you are playing blind. Not an enjoyable round and we won’t be back. Lamlash and Whiting Bay far better courses and cheaper too.
Fantastic place to play
Very welcoming staff so friendly. The course is quirky to say the least. The dry spring has obviously inhibited grass growth which is a pity. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Shiskine.
Seen it better
Have played Shiskine many times over the years and always enjoy my golf there , however found that the fairways where very poor in places and greens even though looked great where really slow , hopefully they can get the course back to its finest
Excellent
Only 12 holes but a fantastic variety of different challenges.
Shiskine
I have played this gorgeous little course many times over the years on our trips to Arran and it never disappoints!
I did think there maybe a few issues with the condition of the course as there had been a ridiculous amount of rain for days prior to playing but this little links course handles that no problem and the course was immaculate.
I do feel it is a little over priced for a 12 hole course but apart from that I cannot fault the course or staff in any way. If you haven’t played Shiskine, you are missing out.
A spectacular and special 12 holes
Played this course with my little brother while on Arran over the weekend and it blew us both away with its quirkiness and excellent playing conditions. From the very first hole it just wowed us both from blind shots to immaculate rolling greens. Every hole is different and every shot must be well thought out. We loved the experience from start to finish, if your over in Arran and you love golf with panoramic views throughout your round look no further. Fantastic fun.
Crazy Golf
It's OK if you like 200yd blind par 3s, and only have 2hrs to spare
Lovely Little Round
Played here the morning after a lot of rainfall. It meant the 2nd green was winter greens but the rest of the course was immaculate.
Staff were very friendly on arrival.
Course itself is entertaining, only 12 holes but some interesting ones thrown in. The second is a nice one with a mound in the middle over the burn. The 3rd a blind par 3 onto a platform above you, the 5th a 195yd par 3 into the wind, the 9th an interesting par 5 with a blind shot which could catch longer hitters off the tee.
Some may complain about it being short but it's a good mix of shots to get around.
The greens were immaculate and consistent. Which always makes for a more enjoyable round. Would go back if on Arran again.
Quirky 12 Holer
A must play course with spectacular views. Pity you can't get a pint in the clubhouse afterwards..
Worth a visit
Sadly when I visited the greens had just been treated and made them slow and unpredictable.
Not the best course i have ever played but quirky and fun.= perhaps the most unusual!
If your are nearby fo golf then not to be missed!
Lovely quirky course
First time playing. Lots of lovely blind shots all over the course. Greens were being maintained when playing but you can tell they are well looked after. Curse condition was great overall. Proper little golf course.
Shiskine golf course
A place of beauty. Lovely course and layout. Views amazing. Co Siri on excellent and staff very friendly in shop. Good choice of food in clubhouse. Plenty to see nearby.
Shishkine golf course
Got such good recommendations in advance. Wasn’t disappointed. Lovely layout with great scenic views. Some really challenging holes. Course in great condition and very good value for money. Friendly professional and nice staff in tee room. Absolutely recommend a visit
12 Hole Course wanting more
Shiskine is a 12 hole course (of which 7 holes are par 3's) and its standard green fee rate of £25 is a little pricey for only just over 2 hours of play. I got it for £19 which sweetened the deal for sure. Better value for money is offered at the other three 18 hole courses on Arran. There is an 18 hole card but only for members competitions and I was not allowed to play off the white tees, both these aspects were very disappointing. No question the surrounding views are the best on the island as are the greens and general course condition. That being said, those same views can be had without paying a penny by joining the many walkers on the public footpaths lining some of the course. Some great holes with blind tee shots and a real challenge the first few times played. If you are used to long par-72 parkland or links courses you are likely to walk off feeling a little short changed with a lot of energy still in the tank. Definitely worth a visit if you are on the island to tick off the list but once played a few times the novelty wears off. It's not quite the best 'par-3 pitch and putt' style course I've ever played, but it's pretty close.
Beautiful Course
A challenging though enjoyable course.
Some high winds to deal with on the day but that didn't take away from the beautiful surroundings.
