Given its seaside location overlooking picturesque farmland to the north and the Forth Estuary to the south, golfers would expect Scoonie Golf Club to be a traditional links layout but it is actually a parkland course. The stunning views of the surrounding countryside contrast nicely with the views of the sea. Long hitters might be disappointed since the golf course is quite short at 5,494 yards with the longest hole only reaching to 430 yards. It is a tight layout that is tough but fair. Accuracy is a necessity since players can find themselves facing a handful of problems from going even just a little wide. The club proudly boasts well manicured fairways and greens that are maintained to the highest standard. It is because of the excellent conditions that Scoonie Golf Club has garnered quite a following.

Extremely Enjoyable round of golf

I have played this course on many occassions and by far it is my favourite course in the area. The new Pro is friendly and knowledgable and is keen to make plenty of improvements which means it can only get better. It is easily played in under 3 hours (normally under 2.5 hours)and is very forgiving to wayward drives on the majority of holes. There is OOB to contend with on a number of holes but largely on the left therefore kind to the golfer who prefers to fade the ball. There are no par 5's but the 6th, 9th, 11th, 15th, 17th & 18th all challenge the longer drivers.

My favourite driving holes are the 12th and 15th where a long drive makes the approach much easier. There are some tricky par 3's (8th off the medal tee) and the 13th of note. There are also great views of the coast from 13, 14 and 17.

The bottom line is you will come off Scoonie having had an enjoyable round of golf and you wont be knackered.

In this kneck of the woods it is probably one of the cheapest rounds of golf you'll enjoy with private course standards of greens and fairways. There aren't a lot of green keepers but with the few they have they do a great job keeping the course in good nick.

Great Course for a Quick Holiday Round, Pro Extremely Friendly

A short course but in superb condition, especially the greens. Played at midday and whizzed round in 2.5 hours. The course opens with five 300 yard-ish par 4s and then two longer ones. More par 3s and more undulation on the back 9. The par 3 14th has a massively long green. The pro was very friendly and let me have another crack at the uphill 13th.

Thank you for your great review - we are delighted you enjoyed playing Scoonie, and you worked out what club to hit at the 13th! It's a tricky little hole, so club choice is key. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Avoid being fleeced at other clubs in area!

Proper old fashioned club. It's a Muni, but one of the oldest clubs in the country, designed by James Braid, and great for holiday golf. I got around in 2.5 hours! Friendly staff, good pint in the clubhouse. When I first started coming to Scotland it was possible to play Turnberry, Crail, Elie, even St Andrews for a reasonable amount, They're now sticking a fork in working golfers, chasing the tourist dollar - a lot of the time the money isn't staying in the area. Support the local reasonably-priced clubs, like Scoonie, shun the ones that charge £100+ per round. They'll soon bring their prices back down!

Absolutely Fabulous

Played today staff so helpful and friendly. Food great. Course was in a very brilliant condition and each hole had a different aspect to each fairway and green. Greens were in an excellent condition and felt very ‘linksy’
Well worth a day out

Arrogant Professional

I turned up at Scoonie Golf Club. Only to be greeted by the most arrogant man I have ever met. The head professional at this golf club is bringing down the experience of playing a delightful course.

On a more positive note. Course was good condition for time of year and nice layout. With good views of the water.
However I refuse to go back due to the service in the pro shop. As well as bare shelfs.

Club house was friendly and inviting with great staff. All credit to the caterers and the green keeping staff.

Major improvements needed in the pro shop.

It has been some time since your visit to Scoonie. Having just started the position as the new PGA Pro in June 2019, and having read your review, i see that you enjoyed the course, however there were some issues when you visited in 2017. This is very disapointing to read and i would be delighted if you could get in touch the next time in you are in the area, so you can have a better experience. Thank you.

Lovely course

Lovely course with a good balance of scoring chances and tough tests. All the greens are an excellent condition, there are a few sneaky bunkers to catch you out along the way.

No Communication

Had a lovely game of golf at Scoonie but didn't start off very well as no-one had confirmed our booking to the pro shop starter.I had to go and prove my conformation email to him and he wasn't happy at all which may me feel a bit uneasy.

Better communication between teeofftimes and golf courses is needed here.

This is an enjoyable course to play, took less than 3 hours to play 18holes. Challenging elevated green (?13th)
