Powfoot Golf Club
About
Powfoot Golf Club was founded in 1903 and designed by the legendary James Braid.
The first nine holes present a stiff test in the best links tradition and the final nine encompass a mixture of parkland with gorse and rough.
The ninth hole, known as "Crater," gets its name from the fact that a German bomb was dropped here during World War II. This provides the par-4 hole's defining feature - a great, deep hollow some 80 yards short of the green.
The highlight of the back nine could be No. 11, which has everything that the golf course is famed for. Your tee shot has got to be straight, which is no easy job when that wind is blowing. Once over the incline, you will find the green nestling up to your right, surrounded by shrubs, plus a bunker on either side of the green.
The links part of the course follows the shoreline of the Solway Firth and presents some breathtaking views of the North Lakes mountains and the hills adjacent to Dumfries.

Lucky weather break
Forecast for rain for the full round but luckily played in T shirts all the way round.
Course in really good condition for time of yr and impressed with greens as to be expected on a links course. Couldn't fault it for the £26 Golfnow fee and played one of my best ever rounds so made the say even better.
Very friendly staff in golf shop-wished I lived nearer and would be delighted to call it my home course
Genuinely can't wait to return
Top Notch Course
This course is really worth a visit if you haven't played here before, would recommend a stop here if you're on your way north to play other more famous destinations.
Some wonderful gorse lined holes and greens were in great condition, given that we played in march.
A few weaker holes towards the end of the round. The only reason not given a 5 star rating, but would definitely visit again. We paid £35 for our round and would say that to be decent value.
Friendly staff in the clubhouse and food was good and reasonably priced.
Looking forward to playing again next year.
Great Condition
Greens in excellent condition for time of year. Really good round on a challenging links course.
Cracker
Great course with great hospitality and welcoming from D starter, bar staff and a couple of members we chatted to before playing
First round at Powfoot
Great friendly staff and people unreal Greens great course layout great location looking down the solway 10/10 would advise anyone to go play
Great course
Great course which will test you, the gorse will be punishing if you go off line. Not hilly so was able to carry comfortably.. I would certainly play it again.
Link golf
Very enjoyable play. Good drainage only minor waterlog in some fairway. Good experience overall.
