New Galloway Golf Club

New Galloway Golf Club, noted for its superb natural greens, is a gem among rural golf courses in Scotland. The course climbs from a woodland setting up the first two holes to a more open moorland, with views and sounds of Loch Ken and the surrounding Galloway Hills.

The golfer will be surprised to find no bunkers at New Galloway. Instead there are many whinns and gorse bushes to catch the errant shot.

The 377-yard fifth hole is arguably the best on the course, with its dogleg to the right from the back tees, where the tee shot needs to cross a wall. The second shot from the fairway requires the player to avoid a rough hill 20 yards short of the green on the left, while the green is protected in front by a low mound on the right side.

Although 10 yards shorter, No. 8 is considered the most difficult hole. Trees line the view from an elevated tee to a rocky bank crossing the fairway. After a good tee shot, a medium iron shot is needed to a slightly elevated green with a marker pole to the rear.

Location: From Castle Douglas take the roads to New Galloway and the course is situated on the western edge of the village.
