About
A round at the Newbattle Golf Club kicks off on St. Davids, a par 4 that measures 363 yards and requires a tee shot toward the left of the fairway to set up an approach to the protected green. The chance for big hitters to open up their games comes on the 13th hole, Lucky Dip, a par 5 that measures 566 yards. The hole requires a second shot that gets you around the dogleg for a mid- or short-iron to the green. The final hole at the Newbattle Golf Club, Hame, is a par 4 that measures 354 yards and requires a straight shot to stay inbounds for a mid- or short-iron to the green.

Really good condition
My son and I played Newbattle and really enjoyed it. The course is in excellent condition. Considering the winter ice and snow we had the greens and tees are really far on. Very playable course with lots of room for the odd stray drive. Nice layout with some lovely holes. Particularly like 16, 17 and 18.
Classic Gem
This is a classic, well looked after gem of a course set in a parkland setting in the town of Dalkieth. As this was the first time playing I really enjoyed the challenge yet I felt comfy playing it. The greens despite still not at their prime played really well, no bobbles and read true. Certainly the course is well looked after by staff who care to provide an environment to enjoyed by club member or visitors. There is one par 5 which I really enjoyed. The 17th, which tees off from an elevated tee over the river Esk heading back up to an elevated green, was very enjoyable. A lot of the greens have bunkers well placed to add to the challenge of the course. We were given a warm welcome by the staff and all the members we met on and after our round. Will definitely look forward to playing this course again. If you decide to visit and play I’m sure you will enjoy playing this course
Bry
Played Newbattle on Friday 6th Nov.
The condition of the course was terrible.
Very wet and boggy, and 8 of the greens were winter, Why ? I am not sure as the rest were fine.
Yes there is course maintenance happening, this should be highlighted before booking.
I wouldn’t rush back to play this, definitely not in the Autumn/Winter months as it is definitely not good value for money.
I Would not recommend playing this, I am sure there are better courses out there for less money.
Nice Course. Greens in terrible condition not great value for money.
Nice course, although we weren’t able to do the holes in order and was pretty confusing, the course has a few holes that are great to play. Overall the course wasn’t in great condition for my first time playing there. Value for money wasn’t great, only found out on arrival that the course had taken a lot of rain and all the greens where being relayed. The grass on the Fairways and greens where the same length. Personally think you could play a different course in better condition for less money.
Not well signposted
Course wasn’t in best condition but this may have been due to the bad weather the few nights before. The course isn’t well signposted as there’s a bit of a walk from hole 2 to hole 3. I actually missed hole 3 as I couldn’t find it.
They also changed the hole order for some random reason which was a bit odd. Didn’t really make sense (see photo). Would have been difficult to remember if I didn’t take the photo. Winter greens were being used which I wasn’t aware of when I made the order.
I’d be willing to try this course again but maybe in the summer when weather is likely to be better
Great conditions for this time of year
Played 30/10, greens were outstanding for this time of year, fairways pretty decent with a few boggy parts as might be expected from a parkland course. All round great condition and good value, would recommend and would play again.
Good round of golf
Played on a morning when most courses were closed due to heavy overnight rain. Could not fault Newbattle for the conditions underfoot, it played as if there had been no rain at all. Reasonably short course with some terrific holes.
This course is a cracking test
Course layout and condition was excellent, fairways and greens are of a high standard and well manicured, staff were friend,y, club house welcoming and food choice and quality hard to beat. Downside was the flow of play, Had a four ball in front of us that did tend to slow us down, but we too were not in a hurry, completed round in just over 3 hour 30 minutes, l recommend this course to anyone , there’s not many courses in this condition just now, get yourselves down to Newbattle, great course and great value all round.
Immaculate course
We have played this course a couple of times before and we’re delighted to get a good deal with Golf Now to play it again. The greens were in immaculate condition, as were the fairways. The staff were very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our round. Will definitely go back there.
An enjoyable experience
An attractive and open course and very suitable to high handicapped golfers.
The greens really are the best
Played this last year and, yes, it's the greens. Sank long putts on the 1st, 3rd and 9th (last two for birdies).
As well as that you have to think about your shots, so much better than 'hit it and hit it again.' E. g. 2nd hole from a elevated tee where you can possibly hit the green but any lay up shot has to be not too short (can't see the green) a d not too long (in the veg patch).
Other memorable holes too, so this is one of my favourites (played 21).
Just one thing, remembered from last year and mentioned by others, please get a direction sign to 3rd tee, it's not hard, but beyond hard to go the wrong way forever and still climb the big elevation in the end
Don’t go left
This course is a fair test of golf. It may seem like a short par 69 course but it can be made difficult thou if you drive the ball too far left on the 1st 8 holes but the smooth greens and the nature scenery and friendly atmosphere make it a great place to play.
Throughly enjoyed it.
Even tho it was wet + windy. Course was in great condition. Greens lighting fast even in the wet conditions. Highly recommend a round here if you never played course before. Professional very accommodating as we got a buggy at the last second. without any hassles. Will play again.
