olf has been played on the Gowf Field of Loudon at the the Loudon Gowf Club since the 16th century, when it was the private course for the Loudon Castle's Campbell family; as for the Gowf thing, that's not a typo but the old Scottish word for golf. Many believe that in the more than 400 years the golf course has been gowfed upon it has never been plowed. Many credit this fact with being the reason why Loudoun's golf course is often ranked among the best of the Scottish inland gowf courses.

The golf course at the Loudoun Gowf Club measures 6,005 yards and features a par of 68 with a standard scratch score of 69; "ladies" have the option of golfing 5,193 yards with a par of 71 and a standard scratch score of 70.

Visitors are welcome at the Loudoun Gowf Club during the week, but they must prebook via telephone, e-mail or fax and have to dress properly: no trainers (sneakers), jeans, tracksuits or soccer colors.
