The Old Course at Loch Ness includes old and new features, as the original layout was altered to make way for a new nine-hole option. Using 15 holes on the main course, creating one new hole and splitting two holes, designers achieved an 18-hole layout again.
The Old Course, which measures 6,772 yards from the white tees, is a parkland golf course with rapidly maturing trees. The course in on a north-facing slope that provides amazing views of Inverness and surroundings from the top. Only two holes play uphill, and the rest meander along the slope gently taking you to the top.
The toughest hole is No. 2, which is a feature of both old and new layouts, being one of the original 15 left in the changeover. It is a 557-yard par 5, with a long ditch that splits the fairway in two. In front of the green is a cavernous bunker flanked by a pond on one side and a burn on the other.

This 5,900-yard par 70 may seem short by today's standards, but Loch Ness Golf Course's New Course is no walk in the park. It will push experienced golfers to shoot handicap, while not pummelling novices. The New Course's second hole will test low-handicappers. It's a 550-yard par 5, so you'll need some serious muscle behind the club to reach the green in two.
The New Course also has generous fairways and top-notch conditioning. The facility includes a clubhouse with a restaurant, pro shop and conference area.
