Famous for its wildlife and picturesque views of Kirk Loch, Lochmaben Golf Course presents a somewhat surreal experience to any golfer.
The attractive 18-hole parkland golf course occupies a historic area around Kirk Loch. Close by the second green is the site of Bruce Castle. On the third hole, golfers can see the huge defensive ditch, which helped protect the castle.
The par-70 course's signature hole is the 120-yard eighth hole, which requires a tee shot across a corner of Kirk Loch.
Lochmaben is an ancient town four miles west of Lockerbie on the main road between it and Dumfries. Its location is unusual as it is hemmed in by three separate lochs: Castle Loch to the south, Kirk Loch to the southwest, and Mill Loch to the northwest. Lochmaben's origins date back at least as far as the building of the castle by the Bruce family in the 1160s.
