Good Course
Course was in good condition fairways well cut, large greens and they are in good condition, a couple had a bare patch here and there but overall well worth the money
It’s been a while but it’s even better than I remember!
Not played Littlehill for about 25 years and feared that the ravages of local government cut- backs would have eroded what once was seen as a hidden James Braid gem. It is clear that the course needs a bit of investment, wasn’t that always the case, but this does not detract from the fact that it is great fun, is in pretty good condition - given that there is no artificial water on the greens - and recognising that it is pretty much surrounded by housing estates.
I’d forgotten how long the course was and how important it is to be on the fairway. Yes it is fairly generous and there is leeway to hit the odd wayward drive but the rough was lush and punishing, not long enough to lose a ball but sufficiently punishing that you aren’t going to make the green with your second shot from 170 yds :-(
The greens are large and, given the variety of weather this summer has thrown at us, were in pretty good shape. Sure there are a few bare patches here and there but I've seen worse this year on some private courses with water on tap. Well done to the greens team.
One final observation I would make is the difference the tree growth has made to some of the holes. This observation is only possible if you have been away for quite a while! For example between the first and second, the maturing trees really make a difference if you are off line. Similarly the trees between seven and eight and also the bunkers on thirteen and fourteen all add to the challenge and interest. But I miss the wall at the par three fifteenth.
In summary I really enjoyed my round and intend playing again in the near future. If you have played Littlehill in the past why not try it now, I can assure you it is as good if not better then you remember.
Little hill
Long par 4s some tight fairways ground was hard greens firm but not too fast all in all good course enjoyed my round
Good value for money
Good value for money, some of the greens definitely need some work done though
GW
Greens are in shocking condition, your lucky to see grass on some of them
Love the course just needs a little spruce up on tee boxes and some greens
A classic James Braid design.
This James Braid masterpiece really needs investment and a good greenkeeping squad. Wouldn't take much to get this championship course back in shape as everything is there.
Plenty space for possible driving range and restaurant facilities to turn this beauty into a successful family-orientated business with golf shop etc. ...
Value for money
Course was okay, decent length and layout. Fairways could do with a cut but not too bad. Greens very bobbly and need a lot of work, some better than others but on the whole the greens let it down. But, for £12 a head at the weekend it’s a good day out, good hit. Not the course for you if you are low handicap and looking for real challenge. For the average amateur it’s ideal, and a decent day of golf.
Littlehill
Tee boxes and greens could do with some tlc and more info at tee boxes aswell
Great course.
Great golf course with a great history behind it. Great to see it packed on a Saturday. Some greens are currently being looked after with the summer in mind I feel but the old course is looking great still. Some greens need looked after but what can green staff do when the council want little to do as possible with this golf course. It’s a beautifully laid out course and no hole is easy!
Good if you like dodging neds
This is actually a decent enough course for a council course but the problem is most people playing haven't paid and just jump on in front of you.
If you're unlucky enough to play at the weekend you'll have to dodge the groups of 30+ neds who hang about the course. There was a burnt out car in the woods within the course...there's now a second one been added to the collection recently.
The greens are in terrible condition due to neds doing donuts on them with their dirt bikes.
