Gullane Golf Club's No. 1 course, one of several East Lothian golf courses, might get lost in the shadow of its famous neighbors, if it weren't such a great championship course in its own right. Gullane No. 1 is an Open qualifying course and jointly hosted the 1998 British Amateur Championship, won by Sergio Garcia. Over the years, Gullane has hosted the British Boys Championships, the Youths Championship, the Scottish Strokeplay, and the British Ladies Championship.
The first hole, a fairly benign par-4, requires only a solid drive and a short iron for the approach. Don't get false confidence: the second might be the course's hardest, with a tight tee shot, uphill-all-the-way play, and frequent wind. Take in the view of the village of Gullane from the 17th tee, and finish off the 350-year-old golf course.
Gullane Golf Club welcomes more than 30,000 visiting golfers per year, and the clubhouse provides ample refreshment; for bar food and a pub vibe, hit up the nearby The Auld Clubhouse.

The Gullane Golf Club No. 3 Course was ready for play in 1910, and now the first and last trios of holes sit on the east side of Highway A198. The other 12 holes lie on the south side of Gullane Hill and offer wonderful views across the Aberlady Bay, of Edinburgh and Firth of Forth.
Do not let the official yardage mislead you: At 5,252 yards, the par-68 golf course looks small, maybe simple, and there's only a single par-5, the 443-yard 14th.
This course, however, will test the most experienced golfer.

The No. 2 course at Gullane Golf Club was constructed in 1898. Now, the first and 18th holes sit east of A198. The first seven holes parallel Gullane No. 1, and then the action shoots toward the natural reserve adjacent to the Aberlady Bay, then turns back toward the Visitors' Clubhouse.
Gullane No. 2 offers great short holes, especially the 11th, with its fantastic view and strategic club selection. Make no mistake, though: the long holes are long. The sixth hole is a 498-yard par-5, and the 16th is a 527-yard par-5.
The golf course hosted the 1980 final qualifying for the Open Championship and the 2000 Seniors Open Amateur Championship.

The most unique aspect to this links is the volcanic hill that makes part of the course classic, low-lying links, with other holes playing on the steep hill.
Keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine when you get to the 7th tee, one of the greatest vistas in golf.
