Glenrothes Golf Club
About
Glenrothes Golf Club in Fife offers a challenging 18-hole golf course in a parkland setting. Built in 1967, it's a par-71, 6,406-yard course that occupies a prominent position on the high ground west of Glenrothes. The views from the course are memorable, with tree-lined fairways and glimpses of the Lomond Hills to the north and the Firth of Forth and the Lothians to the south.
The golf course itself is challenging, particularly the back nine, which features a burn that crosses four fairways. Long hitters will enjoy the wide fairways, while those with a good short game will appreciate Glenrothes Golf Club's well-maintained greens.
The course features four par 3s and three par 5s. And while the front nine features the two most extreme holes - No. 3, named "Wester Gales," a 149-yard par 3, and No. 7, Lomond Loan, a 564-yard monstrous par 5 - it's the aforementioned back nine that really taxes. The hole names alone should scare the average golfer - from No. 11, Satan's Gateway, to No. 18, Hell's End, Glenrothes sounds more like a haunted amusement park than a golf course.
There is amusement to be had, of course, and not just on the greens. Glenrothes Golf Club boasts several after-round options, including the Main Lounge, which is the heart of the clubhouse. It's a spacious room with a tasteful decor and comfortable seating. It even has its own dance floor and pool table. There's also a small lounge, which seats 20, and a bar, open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily (until midnight on Friday and Saturday). Full catering services are available in the clubhouse.

Enjoyable challenge
Beautiful scenery, long holes, great condition. I'm a bit wayward off the tee and lost a few balls which made it tough. Really enjoyed, not for unfit, quite hilly. Will play again. Bargain price
First time playing at Glenrothes
What a great course - front 9 is very good, and a challenge for all levels of golfers. Back 9 was great in calm conditions - must be really tough in windy conditions.
Course was well maintained and a nice layout. We played as a group of 3, and pace was great all the way around.
Will definitely play again.
Brilliant Course!!
First time playing this course and was perfect. Greens in great condition and although the first nine holes are quite forgiving the back nine is
much more challenging. Great layout and will definitely be back!!
Glenrothes golf course
This course never fails to please. For a municipal course it is as good if not better than many privately owned courses. It. could easily be described as 2 courses in one. Holes 1 - 10 have a fairly easy terrain but holes 11 - 18 are a test of endurance due to the steep terrain.
On this occasion was not able to sample the normally excellent club house facilities due to Covid restrictions.
Would highly recommend this course and its facilities.
Glenrothes golf course
Always a good day playing this course. Unfortunately this time the course was very wet with some areas unplayable. Would suggest the Golf Trust look at the drainage issues as a matter of urgency as this spoils the course.
The layout feels like you are playing 2 courses which adds to the enjoyment.
After an enjoyable round is is always great the relax in the clubhouse with a glass of something alcoholic however this time due to current restrictions this was not possible.
Great Local Course
This is a great council run course. Plenty challenges and interesting holes and in great condition. Hard to identify an 18 hole course with better value for the quality provided
Thoroughly enjoyed this course great value for money & we'll maintained from tee to green with great staff.
Good layout.
Course is in great condition apart from the greens. Very sandy and lots of bare patches they actually rolled ok which is testament to the work done on them. If they could solve whatever issue they have with the greens it would be a great course. Saying that it still represent very good value for money.
Glenrothes open
Played Glenrothes open, £17 entry very good value for money.
Course in very good condition, not issues with fairways and rough cut to a fair length.
Greens smooth but not the fastest, however very tree.
Front night is fairly flat with the back nine slightly more undulating. Front nine is well tree lined on most holes and more open on the backnight.
Would play again.
Glenrothes golf course
Thoroughly enjoyed our time on course. Second nine holes extremely strenuous but still enjoyable. Will definitely be back
A bit shabby
Very hilly back nine completely different from the front nine. OK but in need of some attention not as good as Dunnikeir and Scoonie
