Located on the southeastern coast near Edinburgh, Craigielaw Golf Club is in close proximity to the very links courses that inspired its own design, including Gullane and Muirfield. Opened in 2001, the course stands out as one of the newest courses in an area known for having some of the oldest golf courses in the world. Despite being much younger in comparison, Craigielaw G.C. manages to hold its own as one of the most challenging links golf courses in Scotland. The layout features interesting hole designs that will have golfers hitting both tee shots and approach shots over bunkers, stone walls, rough, and meandering streams. The wind, like on any links course, is also a tricky factor. The fourth is ranked as the toughest hole, and with good reason. This monster par 5 has a stone wall along the entire right side and treacherous rough on the left.

Previous reviewer's comments are ridiculous. This is a fantastic quirky links course. The quality of the course is fantastic, with greens as good as any I have played on this year. There is not a single boring hole with each hole offering a different challenge. Often, you need to place your drive on the correct side of the fairway, otherwise a very challenging approach shot is required.

Staff are friendly and the quality of the food and accommodation is excellent. The view from the lounge is one of the best I have seen in Scotland with a 270 degree view round the coast.

I highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a fun, challenging and intelligent golf course.

This is a distinctly average links course, poor fairways with a large number of divots some very old. The staff were not friendly or welcoming or even helpful. On top of this £59 per person for green fees is ridiculous. Very expensive for nothing special. Further we wanted to rent electric trolleys which they did not have so rented a buggy which was £30 with no GPS. When asked we were expected to buy a course guide having already paid£148 ... a complete rip off. Would not recommend this course and will never go back.
