East Lothian's Castle Park Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland golf course nestled in the Yester Estate woodlands north of the Lammermuir Hills. The 6,443-yard par-72 course features a view as good as its game. Eco-bonus: Developers took care to preserve the surrounding wildlife habitat.
Things heat up from the par-5 first hole, which plays to 499 yards around a water feature that begs you to play across it; survive it, and face a split-level green protected by a bunker to the left. Another par-5 awaits at Castle Park Golf Club's 18th, a 441-yard hole, where an elevated tee offers a straight shot to the bottom of the hill and three fairway bunkers threaten to handle drives hit off the mark. Conquer two more on the next shot, and look at a large green surrounded by four big bunkers.
Make a day of it, and meander through East Lothian's picturesque countryside to take in the roadside foliage, especially for the explosion of color during spring and fall.
