Broomieknowe Golf Club
About
Broomieknowe Golf Club, six miles outside Edinburgh, features a well-aged parkland course in top shape. It's an easily walked golf course, the product of legendary course designers Ben Sayers and James Braid, with the first creating the layout and the second extending it.
Broomieknowe Golf Club's course - 6,172 yards, with a standard-scratch score and par of 70 each - offers a great golfing challenge. A round of golf kicks off on Fairway, as the first hole is called, a gentle 316-yard par 4 that requires a straight shot clear of the trees on both sides and then a short iron to hit the green. Battle your way through Mary's Dyke, the Cockpen, Robin's Nest and 13 other holes. You'll reach Knowesend, a 318-yard par 4, where you'll need to tee-off nicely to clear the gap in the trees (they grow, so visit when they're short or wait until they become even more of a challenge). From there, hit a short iron to a green bunkered on the left and right.
After your round at the Broomieknowe Golf Club, hit up the lounge for an informal atmosphere, quality food and its variety of beers.

Course layout
5 star all round except course layout. The only reason for the 3 on that aspect was the course was in a different setup than usual. Unfortunately we didn't know the usual setup as we had never played here before. A lot of confusion was had working out if we were teeing off on the right box.
A slog
Very boring poorly maintained course.... the pro shop took my d licence as collateral so I would hand back 2 mats..... won’t be back no matter the price .
Great course
We (four of us) had a great round of golf at Broomieknowe. Everyone was brilliant. Will definitely go back again.
Broomieknowe
Despite Covid restrictions and the ongoing building works they have still provided an excellent golfing experience
Some fair, some groundhog day
After the initial non welcome in the pro shop (that you'd expect in HMP Addiewell) we wandered to the first tee and played off, only to then see the tee box also marked 'Hole 3.'
Check on Garmin, hole looked roughly the same shape (more on that later) but the flag is hidden, so back to pro shop where a bunch of seniors said we were on the right hole. Thanks again staff!
After that, some fair holes:bit up, bit down, slight dog leg but only one hole (with a ditch at 240/200) you had to think about.
Some long par 4's (e. g. 450 yds) but I think there was no imagination in this as, apart from three par 3's and possibly a par 5 (forget), they're all par 4's. And just to make sure, the last four holes (17, 18, 1 and 2 then) are all identical: 360 yds ish, flat and straight.
We got this on a deal at £25 but would require more (any?) stimulation for this price
Excellent course
I found this golf course interesting. There were trees positioned at good places. If you hit a wayward shot it was easy to find rough was not a issue. First time I have played a new course and never lost a ball.
I would recommend this to all levels of golfers.
Good start, poor finish
Nice course and decent layout with some fantastic holes on the front 9 and up to 13.
However, we (2 ball) were behind a single player, who was behind the slowest 4 ball I have seen in a while. By the turn they had backed up the whole course and lost 3 holes on the group in front.
Last 5 holes are far too similar though and really let the course done. Basically like 5 swimming lanes, running parallel up and down.
We skipped the last 2 holes due to the intolerable slow group ahead.
Course layout
Course was laid out different due to covid 19 restrictions, otherwise layout is top class for size of course
The staff, inparticular the pro, were very friendly. The course was in good condition and I found the greens to be very fast for an inland course.
Very generous food portions too !
An excellent day, I would recommend you go and play here.
Well done Broomieknowe.
Wee gem of a course
My son and I played twice in the last week as we are moving to the area next month and looking to relocate clubs. Warm welcome from the Pro Mark. Super course, not a long but well laid out. Whilst most holes are avenued with trees, with little rough beneath them it can be quite forgiving. Fairways and greens in great condition. Clubhouse staff and members very welcoming. Looks like they will have 2 new members from next month.
Well maintained but very “samey-samey”
I enjoyed the round, the members seemed friendly, and the course was kept well and looked very nice. The greens were in very good condition and fast.
The only sticking point for me was the hole layouts. There really wasn’t much difference between holes. The course is very flat and with no features, meaning most holes looked and felt the same. There are no particularly memorable holes and with no par 5s if you are a good player it’s a driver and wedge most holes. It has a very lazy Sunday afternoon feel, and good course for potential birdies.
In summary it’s a pleasant course, easy going if you hit a straight ball, but lacks any real character.
Loved it
First time playing this course some parts a bit hilly for me as had to push a buggy should have had a battery one but the course was well maintained greens a bit slow but again good nick I have no faults with this course apart from when looking for 14th as arrow was pointing wrong way will play again great course
