Bathgate Golf Club
About
Bathgate Castle sat on what's now the 10th hole of the Bathgate Golf Club's course. It was part of the dowry given to Walter Stewart when he married King Robert the Bruce's daughter Marjory in 1328. Because of this, the club, which opened in 1907, is required to seek permission before engaging in any excavating, though "Divots are allowed!", as the club proclaims on its Web site, as were the touch-ups proposed by James Braid in 1935.
A round at the Bathgate Golf Club, where the scorecard admonishes golfers to "PLEASE AVOID SLOW PLAY AT ALL TIMES," kicks off big on Lang Whang, a 476-yarder that is one of four par-5 holes. The longest is Auld Reekie, the 12th hole, at 505 yards. The round closes at Hame, a par-4 that measures 405 yards.
Catch up on games back home or games back at Hame in the Bathgate Golf Club's lounge, which offers satellite television, a view of the 18th, and billiards and dancing for those in the mood to do more than watch.

Course was ok
Course was OK although would be much better if winter greens were cut and not just same as fairway grass.
Staff were friendly.
There was no course rules emailed, messaged or told on the day to me so when we passed a bell we did not know what it was for and ended up recieveing a bit of hassle for not ringing the bell. Should be more explained especially when you have never played on a course before.
First visit
Thoroughly enjoyed playing Bathgate. Due to the conditions had to play with mats off the fairway but still enjoyed the round. The course is tree lined wide generous fairways. Many interesting holes.Staff in pro shop were very helpful and friendly..Will play again.
Holes 2/3/4 drenched
Top course, just due to time of year winter greens and flooded fairways.... green that were in play, top class
Luckily, unlike other courses we have played recently there were no winter greens, course was a little damp in places, but never the less it was a good test for our golf standards, there was no facilities in use exc toilet so could not comment on the facilities off the course. One observation is the large amount of divots and in repaired pitch Marks, the green keepers nightmare, all in all taking into the conditions and the weather, well worth the money.
Slowest round I’ve ever played
Played on a Sunday afternoon in a 3 ball and there must have been a Texas scramble on. 4 ball after 4 ball after 4 ball of golfers who were absolutely horrendous. Group in front were slowing the whole course down to the point there was 2 groups waiting to play on each hole. Never once waved to play through or even an apology, waiting until the green cleared on par 5s when the players could barely drive 150 yards. Apart from that the course was in good condition, greens were good apart from the 3 holes we had to play on winter greens??
Russian
Almost broke the car in two driving along side railway line .( very high bump strips)
Two members in a buggy at our backs all the way through the game pushing their way through most people until they met our 3 then they seemed to join a 3 ball making it 5 ball as they wouldn't back off .
First time
Played here after some rain over previous week and it had left the course a bit boggy in places but other than that it was in decent condition, felt like we had held folk up a bit but we had to wait for others to clear our fairways after crossing onto it from other holes, need to be cautious in places with crossing fairways etc but not a bad course by any means, only paid £14 each thanks to golfnow so good value
The course has a good lay out
Seems to have a drainage problems on various holes, due to the surface water lying
Some bunkers are needing attention
Would Recommend
Played on a Hot Deal with 3 others. Good group.
Course was in great condition given the volume of rain in the area over the past week. A few soft greens and a few holes with little run but generally still in great nick.
A good mix of holes, with some unforgiving par 3s if you're not accurate and a good mix of par 5s.
Would definitely recommend, particularly after a period of dry weather.
good day
very enjoyable course with a great variety of hole layouts
Great course. Played through rather wet conditions, and greens were definitely a bit spongy. That being said, the course was in rather decent condition. Very interesting layout, nice and long! Great value for money!
Great course
My 1st time playing Bathgate, it had been a bad storm the previous day with non stop rain. When we played the course it rained for up until the 17th hole.
The course held the water well and it was a brilliant challenge course, I really enjoyed the par 5s and the par s are really great to attack. The odd blind hole, but the Greens were top notch, fairways amazing and not difficult to get out of trouble. staff very friendly and I will be back on a dry day. As local members were very friendly and said it's a great course to play in the sun ☀, but so is every course.. Lol
Honestly great course and will be back.
Great course
Not much I can say badly about this course. Maybe a few more hazards would make it a bit more challenging but the holes are great as they are.
Excellent course
From start to finish this golf course was great. A real pleasure to play. Will definitely be back
Round cut short due to pace of play
Course was in very good condition, however I cut short my round after just 6 holes as it took nearly 90 minutes to play them. This was as a result of two issues - a group of 4 elderly gentlemen refusing to let either the pair in front of me or myself play through, and the club double booking the tee time with a pair of members who took precedence over my tee time as a visitor.
This is something that needs to be sorted where a tee time advertised on GolfNow as a “hot deal” should not then be double booked and it is not the first time this has happened at this course.
I will go back. the course was 1st class. the people are very friendly
Solid Fairways
Apart from the odd blind tee shot, and the occasional need for local knowledge, the course is an entertaining, pleasant golf course. Pace of play was excellent, greens were pure, and the dry summer made the fairways excellent value.
Enough interesting holes to make the course well worth a round.
