Golf has been played at Leven Links Golf Course since 1846, making it one of the oldest clubs in the world. It has a unique landscape of parallel dune ridges that provides the ideal setting for links golf. The slopes and undulations of the terrain are used throughout the golf course, including the fairways that were molded from the valleys created by the dunes. The prevailing winds that blow through the course are often another challenging factor that is added to the game. The first four holes, all par 4s, play long but as the holes continue they become more up-and-down. The golf course opens with a tricky hole where the green sits on a ridge plateau and it finishes with what some have boasted is one of the best finishing holes in the country. It is another difficult par 4 with a burn stretching across the front of the green.

Pace of play

I was very disappointed with our experience at Leven Links today - out tee off time was 11:45 and the course was so saturated with players that we weren't even able to complete 18 holes - it took 2 hours 10 mins to complete 9 holes and by 2 hours 45 mins we had just completed 11 holes.
We only managed to play 16 holes before light faded even though it was a nice day..
We had to wait for every shot - very disappointing - heaven knows how many holes we would have got if we'd booked the 1:15 time that was available!!
I feel the course was saturated with too many players and too many tee times for this time of year.
Both me and my partner are single figure handicaps - I've played Leven a few times but pace of play and saturation of the course means I won't be rushing back to book a time !

Scottish Links winter golf

Played course today in very good weather conditions. 10 degree's, sunny and about a 10 mph east to west wind. Course in excellent shape throughout, hard to believe it was 15th November. Running fairways with reasonably quick greens ( for November) . Staff all friendly and helpful and the food in the clubhouse was fine and very reasonably priced. If you fancy some really good winter links golf without all the pomp and circumstance of some of the higher prestige, and higher priced venues look no further. Course is a proper test of golf and will test most shots in the bag over it's 18 great holes. Don't expect the ritz but if you enjoy your golf you will enjoy this fine track. P.S. Good luck up 18!!

No signs

Course is a jumble of holes interlocking and crossing over right from the first, there were people walking all over the place and cyclists making loads of distractions, we got great weather thank god as it took an age also.

Lovely wee links course

This is proper links golf without being as brutal as some of the St Andrews courses. If you can hit long and straight you will shoot a very low score here. For ordinary mortals like me it's just a very enjoyable round in a nice setting. Greens and fairways were excellent.

Some of the holes are a little tricky to navigate which is why i didn't give it 5 stars.
