Ballater Golf Club
About
This slightly undulating medium length golf course is west of Aberdeen situated in one of the most beautiful parts of upper Deeside. It was founded in 1892 as a nine hole test on land owned by the Laird of Invercauld. When farmland became available in 1905 the course was expanded to 18 holes, providing an exacting challenge in idyllic surroundings. The town and its golf course lie within a circle of hills, providing glorious views and the River Dee runs alongside several of the holes, as it meanders its way down to Aberdeen.

This course was in beautiful condition.
Played Ballater course today in beautiful sunshine. The surrounding scenery is spectacular. The course is very well maintained and very well cared for. Greens and tees in great condition. All credit to the Greens team. The downside is that there was no food or hot drinks available only a bar service which was very disappointing. Non the less we will definitely come back and play the course again.
Great Golf Course
Really enjoyed playing here again. Course in good condition and not too busy. Staff really friendly and food was good. Best of all the pro shop had a good selection of ladies golf wear and accessories. Looking forward to our next visit.
A more scenic round of golf you’ll struggle to find!
The pro, Bill, very friendly and helpful on arrival. Course was in fantastic condition, consistent greens with well manicured bunkers.
Lovely lunch in clubhouse with wives after game with plenty of choice.
We’ll be back!!
Great course
My son and I played Ballater Golf Course in excellent conditions. The only negative was a long list of don’ts as you approached the first tee. The strangest was you may not enter the club house in the same shorts you played a round in. Can be off putting to visitors in this holiday destination. We watched Scotland v Czech Republic afterwards as we enjoyed. Good day out.
Great value
Early season rounds in Grampian have seen courses with many issues with course and green conditions . Ballater. The course is set up well with only 1 green with a few issues and greens are understandably slow at present but as days out go we had a very enjoyable day , really well looked after and the course will improve over the next few weeks and as usual be one of the best around !
Happy Days
A beautiful golf course set in picturesque surroundings. Probably the best course I have played in Scotland. A great test of golf in perfect condition.
Hidden Gem
Beautiful golf course in a fantastic setting. I’m short these days, so the fact that it’s not too long suited me. The difficulty comes from the tricky approach shots and around the greens, which are superb and fast, but with plenty grass on them. Some beautiful homes and gardens on the way around too. Wish I played better but thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommend to anyone visiting.
Nice course
This course is almost entirely flat yet with some raised tees and clever use of dog legs it presents an interesting round.
Beautiful place to play
We played Ballater on a sunny day and it was a real treat. The course is in beautiful surroundings and it is very easy to walk. The holes are relatively short but still challenging for most with plenty variety to keep the interest up. It was very well manicured and a pleasure to play.
Great course in beautiful setting.
I always try and play Ballater when back in the uk. Course was in fantastic condition, good variety of holes. some long par 3’s, and also long second shots if playing into the wind. Course is quite open, so only lost one ball. Greens were very good, as usual. Sun was out and the scenery was fantastic. Club house not open due to COVID. Well worth the drive up.
Good course in beautiful setting.
Really enjoyed playing Ballater, weather was nice, good mix of holes, and greens in good condition. Highly recommended...
